At the dinner table, Patrick's father Alan tells me a story that is probably 25 years old, from when Patrick was just three or so and his older brother was five or six.
Their father found them in the kitchen, Stephen sitting on a chair, and Patrick standing on one, screaming & crying. When Alan asked him what was wrong, Patrick said, "Stephen said he talked to God, and God said Stephen's Patrick's boss." His father suggested that maybe he should talk to God, and see what God told him.
So Patrick looked up, was silent for a minute, and then replied, "I talked to God too, and God said Stephen isn't my boss."
And that was that.
